Garden walk in the inner city
Experience Copenhagen from a greener side when we invite you on a historical and artistic garden walk in Copenhagen's Cultural Quarter.
On the walk, we pass four gardens in the inner city. Copenhagen Museum's courtyard, which was sown after finding seeds in latrines from the 17th and 18th centuries in Pilestræde, we make a stop at the Royal Danish Library's Garden, Thorvaldsen's Museum where in the courtyard you can experience the work "Thorvaldsen's Wheats", which is part of the exhibition Flora Italica, as well as the cornfield at Nikolaj Plads, which is a re-enactment of Peter Bonnén's "Cornfield" from 1975.
The tour is guided by PhD student Margrethe Falkenberg, and at the last stop we offer a glass of wine. We look forward to exploring Copenhagen's gardens with you!
About Margrethe Falkenberg
For more than 5 years, Margrethe has worked as a natural science communicator in Denmark's largest living plant collection, the Botanical Garden. Despite the fact that plants form the foundation of our nutrition, we know surprisingly little about them. That is why she has chosen to get involved in the dissemination of the plant kingdom. Through this effort, it is her goal to recreate a stronger connection between people and nature, as well as promote a deeper insight into the crucial role that plants play in our daily lives.
As a PhD student in Agronomy, Margrethe specialises in the domestication of perennial crops. The goal is to understand how we can better utilise and adapt these crops, in order to achieve a more sustainable and climate-tolerant agricultural production. Agricultural practices must not only be productive, but also adapted to the climate challenges of the future.
