Make your own plant press

You can easily have a creative workshop at home at the kitchen table - see here how.

Let us take a closer look at the beautiful botanical work Flora Danica. We are going to make our own plant press so we can dry flowers. First we need a walk in a garden or forest and pick flowers. Then we build the flower press. When the flowers are dried in the press, you can make beautiful posters inspired by the posters in Flora Danica.

You need

  • A newspaper or an advertisement in newsprint
  • A piece of cardboard
  • A glue stick or other glue
  • A scissor
  • Baking paper or liner/wrapping paper
  • Rubber bands
  • Flowers

How to do it

Make a book cover for your little newspaper book.

Cut two more pieces of cardboard to fit the newspaper book. Glue the pieces of cardboard to the front and back of the book.

Cut liner paper to fit the newspaper book. Place wrapping paper between the pages of the book.

Now you can put flowers between the pages and finally close the book with rubber bands.

After a few weeks you can take the flowers out, glue them on paper and make beautiful posters.
