New source for Carl Nielsen’s song 'Native Soil' (Hjemstavn)

In September 2009, The Royal Library received from a private donator an original Nielsen manuscript, namely the composer’s fair copy of the song Hjemstavn to a text by Frederik Poulsen, composed in 1929.

Though the discovery in no way alters radically  Nielsen research – the song is not one of Nielsen’s most important ones – it may be seen as a model example of the methodology behind the collected edition of Nielsen’s works – The Carl Nielsen Edition (CNU) – which was published by the Royal Library in 1994−2009.

A comparison of Nielsen’s draft and fair copy shows the following changes and additions in the fair copy (pf.1 /pf.2 refer to upper and lower staves of the piano part, respectively):
