The International Authors' Stage

Meet Icelandic Einar Már Gudmundsson who in 1995 received Nordic Council’s Literature Prize for his novel Angels of the Universe.

He is now very much in the picture again with a new novel that deals with two alcoholics who struggle with life, love and their alcohol problem.

The book is centred round a criminal and a well-known writer who are both alcoholics.

The connection between the two is established at a meeting at Alcoholics Anonymous. Einar Thor gives his correspondence with his girl friend Eva to Einar Már. This leads to the writer beginning to retell the love story between to the alcoholics, Eva and Einar Thor, as well as looking back on his own literary career with alcohol as his faithful companion.

Based on this deeply personal story the audience gets the chance to experience the great Icelandic writer in conversation with Thomas Thurah.
Gudmundsson has published a large number of novels and collections of poems, most recently the novel Beatles Manifesto (2005) and the collection of poems Shortcuts past death (2007).
