Press Photo of the Year 2025

Experience the exhibition Press Photo of the Year, which presents dramatic, political and memorable moments from 2025 - captured by some of the country's most talented press photographers.

The Press Photo of the Year exhibition shows both winning and nominated photographs from the competition of the same name. Every year, Danish press photographers and their best shots are awarded in categories such as 'News Photo of the Year', 'Portrait of the Year', 'Sports Photo of the Year' and not least 'Press Photographer of the Year' and 'Press Photo of the Year'.

The five candidates for Press Photo of the Year 2025

The nominated photos for the 2025 main prize cover some of the biggest stories of our time and the most intimate emotions: The largest demonstration in Greenland, young people in Ukraine, gangsters, children's unhappiness and the Danish summer. The winner will be revealed on Friday 6 March 2026.

GREENLAND FOR SALE The nominated image is important for both the present and the future, because it is the biggest crisis we have experienced in many years, and it could change the entire world order. It was taken at the biggest demonstration in Greenland's history, and the Greenlanders in the image stand as one people – and they stand together against Trump. There are only Greenlandic flags, and it is as if the people are an extension of the mountains in the background. Oscar Scott Carl, Sermitsiaq

THE MAN It could hardly be more Danish, say more about Danish summer, or be a better picture of freedom. The young men are on their way into life, they have finished high school, and for the first time they are leaving the fixed tracks. It is a happy time, it is hope, summer and freedom. We need to see that. They are the future, and they can do it. Jacob Ehrbahn, Politiken.

ALL WE CHILDREN IN GANGSTER CITY The picture shows a new reality that is cold and frightening in every way. The young man in the picture shows an extreme self-absorption and indifference to all rules which gives us the chills, and the cold room with nothing but empty tables emphasizes the story of a development which both pushes for more brutality and is exported to us. Mads Nissen, Politiken.

FAR FROM THE FRONTLINE: TEENAGERS PREPARE FOR WAR The image is nominated because it is touching and shows the reality that many Ukrainian youth live in. You can see right away that it is his father. In this way, the photograph sums up the whole situation and encapsulates the consequence. A son follows in his father's footsteps. It is also his future, and history repeats itself. 8-YEAR-OLD ALICE'S EVERYDAY LIFE IS LIKE A PUZZLE The image of little Alice, sitting quietly on her bed with her earmuffs on, holding her teddy bear, tells a great story. She represents the challenge that exists in society with children's well-being, which we must become better at monitoring and acting on. The question is, how do we get the children out of their isolation and how do we make them safe. Dicte Marie Hostrup Sønnichsen, DMJX/Dagbladet Information.
