Highlights of contemporary Danish photography gathered in one place
In autumn 2026, Photography Now! opens at The Black Diamond, exploring the many forms and voices of photography in contemporary art. Royal Danish Library has invited five Danish galleries to present their perspectives on what characterises photography in contemporary art today. The result is a collectively curated exhibition in which each gallery creates its own exhibition space featuring selected artists and works.
Participating artists include Larissa Sansour, Asger Carlsen, Innuteq Storch, Fryd Frydendahl, Peter Funch, Jane Jin Kaisen and Nicolai Howalt. The exhibition also features a photographic series by Jacob Holdt from the 1970s that has never before been shown publicly, alongside photographs from Royal Danish Library’s own collections.
Discover the many roles of photography in contemporary art
Photography Now! invites visitors to explore the role of photography in contemporary art today – and perhaps offers a glimpse of where it may be heading.
The exhibition presents a wide range of photographic expressions and artistic approaches, from traditional photography to experimental installations and video works, as well as works in which photography merges with sculpture and other media. Emerging and established artists are presented side by side.
The exhibition is organised in collaboration between Royal Danish Library and the participating galleries.
The five galleries were selected through a curatorial process focused on diversity in scale, geography and artistic profile.
