International Authors' Stage: Margaret Atwood (CA)

Award-winning author Margaret Atwood is one of the most significant and influential writers alive today, particularly within genres such as dystopian and speculative fiction.

With biting satire and colourful imagination, she has written about equality, the climate crisis and a democracy in danger in novels that have become films, series and pop culture phenomena. Now she can be experienced in The Black Diamond.

World-renowned criticism of power

With books such as "Alias Grace", the "Oryx and Crake" series and "The Handmaid's Tale", Atwood has challenged her readers' views on power, climate, gender, racism, religious fundamentalism and much, much more.

Especially "The Handmaid's Tale", which was adapted by HBO for the popular TV series The Handmaid's Tale, ended up establishing the general validity of Atwood's works. The series and the narrative are seen by many as a commentary on American politics under Donald Trump, although it was originally written as a critique of Reagan-era conservatism and women's views.

For more than 60 years, Atwood has put topics from pressing societal debates on the agenda in literature – often in genres that otherwise remain in the niches. Now she can be experienced in conversation in The Black Diamond.
