Friday Jazz on the quay: Jerry Bergonzi Quartet

Get in the summer mood with a strong team of musicians when the Jerry Bergonzi Quartet offers blues with one of America's great jazz legends - with free admission!

Over five Fridays in the summer sun, you can listen to established names and young talents in a sublime selection from the styles of jazz! Enjoy a cold drink and get in the summer mood in front of the Diamond.

An American legend, two young lions and a seasoned musician

Blues music is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for jazz, and at this concert you can hear the blues with one of the great jazz legends of the USA, Jerry Bergonzi. Here together with the Danish jazz profiles Carl Winther and Rune Fog-Nielsen, as well as the seasoned drummer and professor Anders Mogensen. As Bergonzi said the first time they played together: It was love at first chord. Together they have toured the world, and their many years “on the road” have created an intuitive interaction between the four musicians.

Bergonzi, now 76, began his career in 1968, playing with drummer Roy Haynes. Since 1990, Bergonzi has been a professor at the New England Conservatory, considered one of the best conservatories in the United States.

Pianist Carl Winther, with a composer and trumpeter as his father, has always had music close to his life. He is educated in both classical music and jazz and is inspired by all kinds of styles – he has a particular fondness for Latin and African rhythms.

Despite his young age (born 1997), Rune Fog-Nilsen has already left an impressive footprint on the jazz scene with his great talent and energetic sound and has already become a sought-after double bassist.

At least as sought-after is drummer Anders Mogensen, and he has been for many years, both nationally and internationally. He is a professor at several of the Danish music conservatories, and he is the creator of the music group When Granny Sleeps.

Every Friday from 13 June to 11 July, you can enjoy the afternoon sun on the quay in front of the Black Diamond, where we offer a jazzy Friday bar. In front of the Black Diamond, you have a front row seat to experience the characteristic Copenhagen summer life in the harbour canal, with music in your ears.

The café's pop-up bar serves wine, draft beer, cold drinks, snacks, light meals and a summer atmosphere.

The concerts start at 4 p.m. and last until 6 p.m. Please note, however, that the concert on 4 July starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
