Bring the family and let yourself be carried away on a fantastic journey in this marvellous musical performance for children and their adults. Here, music, images and scenography unfold in the story of how the elephant got its trunk. Eight musicians and a narrator are on stage.

After the performance, you can participate in a creative drawing workshop completely free of charge - perhaps draw your own version of the story.

About the performance

The story of how the elephant got its long trunk was originally written by Rudyard Kipling. But in the 1940s, two children created their own performance of the story. They were the two brothers Bent and Per Nørgaard. They put on musical performances at home for family and neighbors – and when Per Nørgaard grew up, he became a world-famous composer.

The two brothers drew 470 pictures on a long "film roll", wrote all the lines down in notebooks and composed the music themselves. They made tickets and posters for film screenings in their living room. Every single day they were immersed in the huge project. They were completely absorbed.

In the performance in The Black Diamond, Ensemble Storstrøm retells the two brothers' performance, here staged and adapted by Jacob Schokking and Gert Sørensen.

Creative workshop

After the concert, you can participate in a creative workshop and colour the two brothers' pictures of the elephant and the other animals that are part of the performance. The workshop takes place just outside the concert hall and lasts until 1 p.m.
