Letter writing for children and their adults

Try your hand at the personal handwritten letter with different writing tools such as ink and quill. Also decorate your own envelope with inspiration from the artist Henri Matisse and write a personal letter to a very special person.

Love letters, postcards, letterbox letters, telegrams, gækkebreve and travelogues - The Royal Danish Library has large collections of all kinds of letters, written by ordinary people like you and me, but also by famous writers and artists – including Henri Matisse.

Thousands and thousands of handwritten letters have been written over time to family and friends across countries and borders. Some letters give insight into the sender's life and thoughts and are therefore treasures in themselves and a unique look into history.

Treasure Expedition

The Royal Danish Library is full of treasures, all containing stories and history. The treasures are books, scrolls, letters, diaries, drawings, sheet music and much more. In the exhibition TREASURES in the Royal Danish Library you can explore some of them and find out what makes them a treasure.

Get a treasure chest, flashlight and an expedition card and get ready for the big Treasure Expedition!

The exhibition has free entry, and you can find it by following the stairs by the café to the first floor and going to the right.
