Prelude to Drama in The Black Diamond

ANNUAL PASS ONLY – Go behind the scenes of the dramaturgical process as Drama in the Diamond once again explores how classical works can be brought to life through new interpretations.

Prior to the next edition of Drama in The Black Diamond, Royal Danish Library invites you to a panel discussion on the relationship between classical drama and contemporary performing arts. Based on a selected dramatic classic and new playwright voices, the conversation examines why these great works continue to speak to us – and how they can be reinterpreted and reimagined today.

The conversation will be moderated by Lise Bach Hansen, Head of Literature & Talks, who will be joined by invited researchers, playwrights and performing artists. Together, they will explore the themes, conflicts and contemporary relevance of the chosen work, while offering insights into the artistic and dramaturgical processes involved in translating classical drama into new theatrical formats.

The prelude takes place right before the performance in the Queen's Hall, so that the audience can engage with the ideas and perspectives behind the work before experiencing the text brought to life in a staged reading.

The conversation also offers an insight into the concept behind Drama in the Diamond, in which classic works are revitalised through staged readings and new playwright interpretations. The featured plays are drawn from Royal Danish Library's unique collection of more than 18,000 dramatic works – a living archive that reflects both the history of drama and its continued relevance today.

The programme will be announced on an ongoing basis.
