160,000 older broadcasts open up another chapter of Danish history

The latest expansion of DR-arkivet covers the period from 1981 to 2006 and consists of so-called documentation and "gossip tapes". As DR recorded the tapes to document what was broadcast on TV – not to save the broadcasts for a future audience, the image quality does not always live up to today's standards. However, the recordings contain a large piece of Danish television and contemporary history that has not previously been available to the public. Here, one can find everything from everyday life and culture to political conflicts and economic crises.

You can watch a broadcast from 1982 about the agricultural crisis, where many Danish family farms were under pressure. DR's graphic designers made the economic problems of the time tangible by showing rising unemployment and falling exchange rates as a red "monster in the Danish economy".

Being watched more than 40 years later, the broadcast is both a snapshot of the times and an example of how the major social issues of the time were explained on television. And still, the discussion about the economy and future of agriculture has far from lost its relevance.
