Winter Jazz: Loupe – Insecta (premiere)

Enter the secret world of insects and instruments with brand new music inspired by macro photography.

Programme

Simon Toldam (b. 1979): Insecta (premiere).

What does it sound like when a world – whispering and invisible to the naked eye – unfolds in sound and images? Insecta is an audiovisual work composed by Simon Toldam for photographer Levon Biss' super-enlarged photographs of insects.

In harmony with films created from the images, Insecta is performed live by the ensemble Loupe. The music is acoustic, played at a whisper volume, and through an auditory super-magnification technique, inciting micro-sound universes are revealed.

Participants

Simon Toldam, prepared piano and composition
Torben Snekkestad, saxophones, reed trumpet, objects
Peter Bruun, micro-percussion, objects

The concert is part of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
