Winter break for super kids

This winter break, Royal Danish Library is filled with creativity, imagination and little superheroes. Come and make your own colorful capes in our creative workshop.

At Royal Danish Library, we believe that all children have superpowers. That's why we're helping you during the winter break to find your talents – big and small. Maybe you're good at gymnastics, math or drawing? Or maybe you're a really good friend? Everyone is good at something, you just have to find out what.

Come and join us for a holiday filled with imagination, creativity and exploration of your own abilities.

Creative workshop – Make a super cape

In the creative workshop you can design your own capes. Together we will explore how to decorate them so that they reflect your unique superpowers and show what each of you is good at.

Stories about super children

Join us on a journey of discovery among history's super children in colorful children's books. In our reading corner you will find books about children who practiced, persevered – and eventually found their very special talents. They could neither fly nor lift cars, but they mastered something else: telling amazing stories, painting breathtaking pictures, composing magical words and creating things no one had previously imagined.

The stories are about, for example, Tycho Brahe, Anna Ancher, and Karen Blixen, and how they ended up being known and remembered for their great discoveries and special talents. You will also encounter stories about children who may seem more ordinary, but who remind us that everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Taxes from super children and super adults

Also visit the library's Treasure Exhibition, where you can see books and drawings made by the super children, about whom you can read stories in the reading corner. See, among other things, Tycho Brahe's fantastic globes and Karen Blixen's drawings and writings. In the Treasure Exhibition, you can also go on an expedition with treasure maps and a flashlight and examine the many historical and fascinating works.

Creative workshop – make your own costume

We have been in the library's huge photo collection and found photos from the old days of people in fun and beautiful costumes. We are going to take a closer look at them and make our own costumes. During the winter holidays you can make your own mask. We have found marbled paper, luxury paper, glitter and colours so that you can give your mask its very own expression.

Imaginative costumes – dress up

In The Children's Library we have a brand new costume corner. Here you can dress up in fun and beautiful hats, and you can wrap yourself in beautiful capes with gold embroidery.

The little special library

In our small library you will find books that you have probably not seen before. These are old children's books from when your parents and grandparents were children, and new children's books with beautiful and different illustrations. You can also browse through a beautiful hand-bound edition of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, which was made especially for The Children's Library by bookbinders from Royal Danish Library.

Experience the house and the exhibitions

Would you like to experience the house or the library's exhibitions? You can, among other things, go on The Great Diamond Hunt, which takes you on an adventure in the library's buildings, or you can explore the Library Garden with the material The Secret Garden. Also visit the exhibition Treasures, where you can go onskatte among some of the library's most valuable works. Of course, you can also visit our photo exhibitions in the basement and experience beautiful and fascinating photographs from the collections. See all current exhibitions.
