UKRAINIAN DIARY – Photography by Boris Mikhailov 1966-2022

Concept art, hand-coloured photography, social documentary, performance and film

For more than half a century, Ukrainian Boris Mikhailov (b. 1938 in Kharkiv) – one of Eastern Europe's most influential and provocative contemporary photographers – has explored and criticised the Soviet system's grip on his country. By combining humour and tragedy, Mikhailov not only challenges the documentary form. He also challenges our perception of reality when, with his distinct artistic language, he creates touching stories about Soviet and post-Soviet history.

Boris Mikhailov's complex and powerful photographic representation of Ukraine's contemporary history is not only poignant, but also more relevant today than ever before. With UKRANIAN DIARY – Photography by Boris Mikhailov 1966-2022, Mikhailov's award-winning art is shown for the first time in Denmark.
