For more than half a century, Boris Mikhailov (b. 1938 in Kharkiv) has explored and criticised the Soviet system's grip on his country, and he is today considered one of Eastern Europe's most influential contemporary photographers.

By combining humour and tragedy, Mikhailov not only challenges the documentary form, he also challenges our perception of reality as he creates moving narratives about Soviet and post-Soviet history with his distinct artistic language.

Boris Mikhailov's complex and powerful photographic portrayal of Ukraine's contemporary history is more relevant today than ever before. UKRAINIAN DIARY is the first retrospective exhibition of Boris Mikhailov in Denmark.

Meet the artist and hear his spectacular story

For the opening, Boris Mikhailov and his wife Vita will be guests of The Queen's Hall, where they will introduce us to Mikhailov's history and life's work in conversation with curator Charlotte Præstegaard Schwartz.

Before the talk there will be a visual presentation of a selection of the works, and after the event in The Queen's Hall, Royal Danish Library will offer a glass in the atrium, as well as free access to the exhibition. This evening there is also free admission to the photo exhibition The Camera and Us.
