Between Heaven and Earth – Sorcery books, alchemy and occult photography

Enter a world where man has sought answers for centuries – in the movements of the stars, in the whispers of spirits, in the hidden powers of nature, and in the forgotten knowledge of ancient books.

Between Heaven and Earth is Royal Danish Library's new special exhibition, where the history of magic emerges from the darkness of its collections for the first time. It opens the doors to rare books of sorcery, alchemical writings, occult photographs and ritual objects – works that have been hidden from the public for generations.

In seven sensuous and atmospheric rooms, the library's most mysterious treasures are brought to life: astrological charts and spirit photographs, handwritten formulas and testimonies of a world where witchcraft, healing and hope went hand in hand.

Join us on a journey through thousands of years of fascination with what exists between heaven and earth.

The exhibition opens on 19 June, 2025 at the Black Diamond.

The exhibition is supported by

Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansens Fond / Augustinus Fonden / Knud Højgaards Fond / Handelsgartner Harry Opstrups Fond / Konsul George Jorck and wife Emma Jorcks Fond / William Demant Fonden.
