Copenhagen Soloists and Anna Markova: Brahms and Beethoven
Once again, Copenhagen Soloists are guests at the Black Diamond – this time with violinist Anna Markova.
Copenhagen Soloists perform Brahms' legendary Violin Concerto with Anna Markova as soloist. Markova appeared as a soloist with the ensemble back in 2022, when they performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto. Now they repeat the pleasure of the ensemble – and in addition to Brahms, they perform Beethoven again; this time his Second Symphony (1800-1802).
Beethoven cast a shadow over his contemporary composer colleagues. He was the great star of his time, and Brahms was one of those who looked up to him. Beethoven's Second Symphony belongs to his early period, but it nevertheless shows a seriousness and a maturity that points forward, especially in the lyrical second movement. As always with Beethoven, it is full of surprises and drama. Brahms's beautiful Violin Concerto was written in 1878 in a spirit of friendship for his friend, the violinist Joseph Joachim.
The ensemble also plays historical instruments this time.
