Children's Library: Paper dolls
Our children's universe is open every Sunday. You can explore the imaginative world of books and immerse yourself in creative workshops with room for the whole family to have fun.
Come along to the Children's Library, where we do activities in the creative workshop. In addition, you will always be able to delve into our collection of special children's books, dress up, play games or explore the library with, for example, our Diamond Hunt or explore our exhibitions. There are always children's hosts from the library present to guide you through the activities and children's offers. Read much more about it all below.
Practical information
It is free for all children and their adults to participate in The Children's Library. The activities are primarily aimed at children aged 3-11, but all children are welcome.
The Children's Library is located in the Galley Hall. You can get to the Galley Hall directly from the library entrance in the Library Garden. If you come through the main entrance to The Black Diamond, follow the signs through the building or ask the staff in the shop for directions. If you are coming with a stroller, use the entrance in the Library Garden.
Food can be purchased at The Black Diamond's café. Food brought in can be enjoyed in the small dining area in the Galley Hall or outside in the Library Garden.
Creative workshop – make your own costume
We have been in the library's huge photo collection and found photos from the old days of people in fun and beautiful costumes. We are going to take a closer look at them and make our own costumes. During the winter holidays you can make your own mask. We have found marbled paper, luxury paper, glitter and colours so that you can give your mask its very own expression.
Imaginative costumes – dress up
In The Children's Library we have a brand new costume corner. Here you can dress up in fun and beautiful hats, and you can wrap yourself in beautiful capes with gold embroidery.
The little special library
In our small library you will find books that you have probably not seen before. These are old children's books from when your parents and grandparents were children, and new children's books with beautiful and different illustrations. You can also browse through a beautiful hand-bound edition of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, which was made especially for The Children's Library by bookbinders from Royal Danish Library.
Experience the house and the exhibitions
Would you like to experience the house or the library's exhibitions? You can, among other things, go on The Great Diamond Hunt, which takes you on an adventure in the library's buildings, or you can explore the Library Garden with the material The Secret Garden. Also visit the exhibition Treasures, where you can go onskatte among some of the library's most valuable works. Of course, you can also visit our photo exhibitions in the basement and experience beautiful and fascinating photographs from the collections. See all current exhibitions.
Creative workshop
Every Sunday at the Children's Library we make a creative product inspired by works in the photo exhibitions. For example, we will make cameras, props and portraits. You can also always color our drawing sheets with fairy-tale motifs. If you are more curious about photography, visit the library's large collection exhibition The World Around Us with photographic works.
