Children's Library: Make masks for Shrovetide
Our children's universe is open every Sunday. You can explore the imaginative world of books and immerse yourself in creative workshops with room for the whole family to have fun.
Come along to the Children's Library, where we do activities in the creative workshop. In addition, you will always be able to delve into our collection of special children's books, dress up, play games or explore the library with, for example, our Diamond Hunt or explore our exhibitions. There are always children's hosts from the library present to guide you through the activities and children's offers. Read much more about it all below.
Practical information
It is free for all children and their adults to participate in The Children's Library. The activities are primarily aimed at children aged 4-11, but all children are welcome.
The Children’s Library takes place in the open library areas on the second floor every Sunday from 10.00 to 16.00. Follow the signs through the building or ask the staff in the shop for directions. Food and refreshments can be purchased from the café at The Black Diamond.
There is limited seating available for visitors wishing to eat their own packed lunches in designated areas of the library. In good weather, the Library Garden or the waterfront are ideal places to enjoy a packed lunch.
Creative workshop
Every Sunday we make a creative product in the Children's Library, inspired by works in the library. This Sunday we make masks for Shrovetide. We use motifs from the library's large photo collection, which we use for decorating our masks. You can also always colour our drawing sheets with fairy-tale motifs. Imaginative costumes and fun games
In the Children's Library you will find a small costume corner. Here you can dress up in fun and beautiful hats, and you can wrap yourself in beautiful capes with gold embroidery. You can also play a special version of Ludo, memory games and other fun games. You can also do nice puzzles with motifs from the library's collections.
The little special library
In our small library you will find books which you may not have seen before. These are old children's books from when your parents and grandparents were children, and there are new children's book works with beautiful and different illustrations. You can also browse through a beautiful hand-bound edition of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, which was made especially for the Children's Library by bookbinders from Royal Danish Library.
Discover the house and the exhibitions
Would you like to experience the building or the library's exhibitions? You can, among other things, go on the Great Diamond Hunt, which takes you on an adventure in the library buildings, or you can explore the Library Garden with the material The Secret Garden. Also visit the TREASURE exhibition, where you can go on a treasure expedition among some of the library's most valuable works.
