Build a Book – Family workshop Saturday

Learn about book crafting at Royal Danish Library and build your own book. For children from 8 years old and their adults.

Join us for a family workshop where children and their adults can express themselves creatively with bookmaking. We will make our own book and delve into the traditional methods, techniques and design of bookmaking. Immerse yourself in a cozy family activity. Children and adults make the book's accessories themselves, such as book binding and book block, and you choose the design and aesthetic expression for your book.

The materials for the books are manufactured by manual bookbinders from Royal Danish Library's conservation department, who work daily to bind and protect the books in the library's enormous collections. We will guide you through the different steps in bookbinding, and we recommend that children and adults help each other along the way. After the workshop, you can take your book home and perhaps use it as a notebook, diary or something else entirely.

Practical information

The workshop is for families, so children must be accompanied by an adult. The workshop is suitable for children from 8 years old.

Please arrive 15 minutes early as the workshop starts at 10:00 a.m.

After the workshop, you have the opportunity to stay for creative fun in the Children's Library until 4:00 p.m.
