Focus on Turkey

Experience the unusual and exciting encounter between Melchior Lorck's drawings and woodcuts from Istanbul in the 1500's and photographer Finn Larsen's sober and surprising photos from Turkey of today in The Royal Library's exhibition The Image of Turkey?

In connection with this exhibition focus is on this exciting country: It has left its marks in many of the library's collections, in books, manuscripts, music, pictures and maps.

The Oriental Collection has a lot of material connected to Turkey, from Osmannic manuscripts to printed books in Turkish and other modern Turkic languages from Central Asia and Caucasus

A collection of photos from Turkey, some of which date back to c. 1870. Professionel as well as amateur photographers - rural and urban life, working situations and tourist motives. Can be searched in REX and some of them seen online. Other pictures in the Collection of Prints and Photographs can be found in the topographical collections or under named persons.

A number of handwritten travel diaries from Turkey and some historical descriptions - to be found among the manuscripts
