The Map Collection

Denmark 1570

The Map Collection acquires, stores, classifies, catalogues and provides access to maps and atlases that cover all geographic areas, with regional specialization on Denmark and Scandinavia.

The Map Section has furthermore the national main subject responsibility regarding the history of cartography and acquires literature on this topic, as well as facsimile editions of old maps and atlases.

The collection contains material acquired since the library was established in 1653. 

Each year the Map Section prepares the Danish National Bibliography, for cartographic materials. The legal deposit is the basis for this bibliography. The records in the bibliography is also cataloged in the librarys online catalogue. See above: Catalogue

For the first time since the start of this conference series in 1964, Denmark will be the host nation. The organizers, in particular the Royal Danish Library and Imago Mundi Ltd, are therefore delighted to invite you to the 23rd International Conference on the History of Cartography (ICHC2009).
