Danish newspapers

Currently, The Royal Library receives printed editions of all local and national Danish newspapers through legal deposit and purchases microfilms with Danish newspapers.

The library’s newspaper collection includes all newspapers published in Denmark since 1634 with one exception: local community papers published outside Copenhagen 1948-1971. Such papers are found at the National Newspaper Collection of the State and University Library in Århus.

How to find newspapers in the online catalogue, REX, and in the library:
In REX there are records for

  • All newspapers published before 1925 
  • Newspapers published in Copenhagen 1926-1948 
  • All newspapers published since 1989 
  • All microfilm purchased since 1989

Newspapers published in Greenland and the Faroe Islands:
These are all registered in REX as regular periodicals (not as newspapers),

Microfilm
All microfilms are available at Reading Room East, which also has microfilm readers. The holdings comprise all microfilm of newspapers from Denmark, Norway, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
