Christmas and New Year in the past

An exhibition of Christmas and New Year cards from c. 1880-1920

In the 1880s Christmas cards became popular in Denmark. Around the turn of the century, the production of Christmas as well as New Year cards increased enormously,  as the common satirical motif of the overwhelmed postman clearly illustrates.

The selection for this exhibition concentrates on the artistic designs of the postcards, with focus on the individual artists. The cards can be found in the large and rich holdings of old Christmas and New Year cards in the Collection of Prints and Photographs.

The exhibition can be seen in the Octogon in The Black Diamond from November to January
