The Oriental collections in The Royal Library comprise texts in languages of Asia and North Africa in the form of manuscripts written on parchment and paper as well as on other materials (e.g. palm leaves, bark, metal sheets), block prints, and printed books. The Department of Orierntal and Judaica Collections also has a small museum collection illustrating book production and the arts of the book, including 200 miniature paintings.
Materials in Oriental languages are all included in the Oriental Collection, whereas materials in Western languages in general belong to other collections in the National Library and Copenhagen University Library. Regardless of language, all printed and digital materials (except manuscripts, block prints, and museum objects) are to be sought and ordered in the online catalogue REX, for use in reading rooms or for lending.
