Codicology & palaeography

Codicology & palaeography as a subject provides literature and other resources for students and researchers within a wide range of scholarly fields. It covers all aspects of the study of the book as a physical and historical object, as well as of the Latin  (and to a lesser extent Greek) alphabet used as book script in Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

alphabeta latina

The Royal Library houses a huge source material for the study of the history of books and scripts in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. More than 1000 codices from all parts of Europe have found their permanent place on the shelves of the library. A common intellectual resource for the study of past ideas and history, nationally as well as internationally
