760,000 radio broadcasts make their way to DR-arkivet
We are adding 760,000 radio broadcasts to Royal Danish Library's DR-arkiv. The goodie bag contains everything from Christmas cheer in "Morgennisserne" to noise and fun with "Tæskeholdet".

Thousands of radio broadcasts from the period 1989-2005 will be made available to the public. It is the largest expansion of the archive since its launch in March 2025 – and the first time many of the broadcasts will be available digitally.
““Radioen har gennem generationer været danskernes fælles lydspor – fra morgenradio i køkkenet til satire, debat og musik, der har samlet os på tværs af landet. Derfor er det helt særligt, at vi nu kan give offentligheden adgang til så mange timers radiohistorie. Det er stemmer, øjeblikke og fortællinger, som har formet vores fælles forståelse af verden,
For the first time, Danes will have access to DR's radio broadcasts from 1989 to 2005, based on the so-called DAT collection. The collection consists of recordings of broadcasts from DR's P1, P2 and P3 from morning to evening. The broadcasts have been identiffied as single broadcasts and metadata added by employees at Royal Danish Library, which means they can now be searched for and played in the archive.
The newly added broadcasts are also the first major automatic identification of individual broadcasts in a complete radio programming. Royal Danish Library has drawn on its own data, data from DR's program listings and Ritzau to succeed in cutting the broadcasts into broadcasts and making them searchable.
Find the broadcasts
The first new broadcasts can already be found in Royal Danish Library's DR-arkiv and more will be added during the coming weeks.
Facts about the media agreement and DR-arkivet
- In the media agreement 2023-2026, Royal Danish Library was tasked with making DR's archive accessible to the public.
- DR-arkivet opened to the public in March 2025 and is expected to contain radio from the 1930s and television from the 1950s in 2026.
- The purpose is to give all citizens access to central parts of Denmark's media and cultural heritage and strengthen an enlightened and democratic knowledge society.
- A comprehensive licensing agreement with Copydan Arkiv and DR makes it possible to open the archive while compensating rights holders. It is an agreement without parallel – also internationally.
