Composition: 1851.

Hartmann was apparently in doubt about what to call this collection, for on 5 December 1851 he referred to them in a letter to his publisher O.H. Delbanco as "mine 6 navnløse Børn" (My 6 nameless children); however, four weeks later he called them "Caprices instructives". When they were published shortly aftewards, he had decided to call them "Etudes Instructives".

Reprint of the first edition (using the same plates) with few changes in articulation and in some of the impressions with fingerings by August Winding being different from that of the first edition. Wilhelm Hansen also published a number of impressions with the same musical text during the 1880s.
