Composition: 26 June 1840.

"Syvsoverdag" was performed for the first time at the gala performance celebrating the crowning of King Christian VIII and Queen Caroline Amalie at Frederiksborg Castle on 1 July 1840. After five performances that year it was taken off and not shown until September 1872. For these performances Hartmann revised his music and wrote six new pieces: No. 1 "Indledning" (instead of the overture); No. 3 Melodrama; No. 4 Prelude to Act Two ("Aften ved Ruinerne af Gurre Slot"); No. 5 Melodrama; No. 10 Melodrama and a new final chorus to a text by H.P. Holst written at the instigation of the actress Johanne Luise Heiberg.
