During 1888–91, Nielsen used a little leather-bound sketchbook, in which he notated sketches and ideas for his compositions. He had the book on him while in Italy in 1900. The piano piece must be a greeting to his wife, Anne Marie. '20 Della Grazia' is presumably an address where the couple stayed.
