GKS 1582 4°: Liber Pontificalis. Series pontificum

Parchment, 18 ff., 27,5 × 19,5 cm; Italy, 11th century (additions 12th century)

Contents:

1r-14v: Liber Pontificalis. – The text ends in an unfinished sentence in the middle of a line on f. 14v, in the chapter on Silvester (pope 314-335). On the second line below is written: "MODO LEGENDUS EST EFFREM."

15r-17r: List of 174 popes, from Petrus to Adrianus (Hadrianus IV, pope 1154-1159). - F. 15r-16v is copied in one hand; f. 17r, Alexander to Anastasius, in another. Adrianus has been added in a third hand. The list thus may have been made after the death of Nicolaus II (1061), brought up to date after the death of Anastasius (1154), and again after the death of Hadrianus (1159)

18r: Genealogy of the holy family: "Anna et exmeria fuerunt sorores ... per virtutem sancte trinitatis"

18v: Copies of a letter from Calixtus II (pope 1119-24) and a document dated 9th of April 1101 concerning monasterium s. Mariae in Monte Albarensi

The documents on f. 18v indicate that the manuscript belonged to the Benedictine abbey of Albarese near Grosseto in Tuscany (mentioned above) at least since the 12th century. It was later acquired by the library of Gottorp Castle in Schleswig, whose manuscripts were transferred to Copenhagen in 1735
