GKS 2033 4°: Iuvenalis, Saturae I-XIV.2

Parchment, 48 ff., c. 17,2 × 11 cm; saec. XII

The manuscript contains D. Iunius Iuvenalis’ Saturae I-XIII (with a lacuna in Sat. VII) and the first two lines of Sat. XIV. The rest of Sat. XIV and the entire Sat. XV has been lost in this source. A commentary to the text is discontinued already after f. 1r (“In hoc exordio uoluntas scribendi ostenditur ...”)

The manuscripts originally consisted of qvaternions plus at least one added bifolium. The inner bifolium of the fourth quire, placed between the present f. 27 and 28, is lost, causing loss of the text of Sat. VII.111-242. The text on the bifolium at the end of the manuscript is continuous. The structure of the manuscript in its present form is: 3 × IV, III [originally IV], 2 × IV, I. At least one quire has been lost after f. 48

There are sketches for large initials at Sat. I & II (f. 1r ["S"] & 3v ["U"]). The first line of Sat. I has not been copied

The manuscript was acquired by the Royal Library at the auction of the Chapter Library of Hamburg in 1784. It was revised and signed by Johann Martin Winckler, appointed secretary to the chapter in 1727. The manuscript was rebound during the reign of King Frederik VII (1848-1863)
