Hirata Atsutane (CE 1775-1843): Kanna hifumiden

Kanna hifumi ("Hifumi writing tradition"). Handwritten book (in two volumes) from ca. 1860, a copy of a book by Hirata Atsutane (CE 1775-1843), originally published in 1819, about the so called "divine writing" (jindai moji) which is today considered to be a fake.

Urabe Kanetaka who in the late 13th century studied the Japanese Shinto mythology, claimed that this "divine" writing system had been used in Japan before the Japanese adopted the Chinese script.
