Fabr. 85 8°: Theodolus. Avianus. Physiologus Theobaldi

Parchment, 29 ff. (IV + VI-2 + VI-1), ca. 17 × 11 cm; Germany, saec. XIV

The volume contains three metric texts, Ecloga Theodoli, Avianus, and Physiologus Theobaldi

One of the hands in Fabr. 85 8° is the same as the one that wrote the list of contents and the ex-libris of Reynerus de Capella in Fabr. 29 2° as well as in manuscripts still extant in other collections, probably Reynerus’ own. A shift from this hand to another can be observed from line 6 to 7 on f. 9r

The catchword vvlneror on the otherwise blank f. 29v i Fabr. 85 8° indicate, that it was once part of the same book as ms. Gud. Lat. 307 8° in the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel, in which there is a list of contents that includes the contents of Fabr. 85 8° followed by the ex-libris of Reynerus de Capella on f. 1v. The list in ms. Gud. Lat. 307 8° also includes the so-called Pamphilus, to which the catchword vvlneror on f. 29v of Fabr. 85 8° refers. Thus even Fabr. 85 8° was once in the possession of Reynerus de Capella. After his death in 1384 the entire codex probably remained for a while in the Dominican convent of Soest, where Reynerus had once been a lector and ended his life as prior

The volume was later owned by Bernhard Rottendorff (1594-1671), Marquard Gude (1635-1689), Johann Albert Fabricius (1668-1736), and Hermann Samuel Reimarus (1694-1768), who inherited Fabricius’ manuscripts. The collection was bought as an ensemble by the University Library of Copenhagen in 1770. The entire collection of manuscripts of the University Library was incorporated into the Royal Library in 1938
