Anonymous: Den danske Rimkrønike (Copenhagen: Gotfred of Ghemen 1495)

The Rhymed Chronicle was the first book to be printed in Danish, in 1495. It contains a collection of poems about the Danish kings – put into the mouths of the kings themselves – from the oldest legendary King Dan to Christian I.

The printer Gotfred of Ghemen was Dutch. He was the first printer to settle in Copenhagen.

Photographed from copy in the collections of the old University library (E 2175, 4to (LN 232)).
