GKS 3443 8°: Ordines Romani

Parchment, 55 ff., c. 16 × 7,5 > 9,5 cm; France (?), c. 900

The manuscript contains the following six Ordines Romani, numbered according to Andrieu’s classification: 1r-11v: Ordo I, 11v-28r: Ordo XI, 28r-42v: Ordo XXVII, 42v-46r: Ordo XLII, 46r-55r: Ordo XXXIV, 55r-v: Ordo XIII

The manuscript consists of quaternions. Quires I, III & VII and an unknown number of leaves at the end of the original codex have been lost. Quire numbers are found in the lower margins of the pages 7v (”II”), 15v (”IIII”), 23v (”V”), 31v (”VI”), 39v (”VIII”), 47v (”VIIII”), & 55v (”X”). The second leaf of quire ”II” (the first of the manuscript in its present form) is lost. Thus both the beginning and the end of the codex is incomplete, and there are lacunae in the texts between f. 1 & 2, between f. 7 & 8 and between f. 31 & 32

F. 1 recto is badly damaged and almost illegible. The damage is old, as is testified by a note about the content of the book, written upon the rudiments of the underlying text in a 17th or 18th century hand: ”Ordo missæ / in principio libri / laceratus”. The same hand may have underlined some words and made the occasional marginal notes that occur in the section containing Ordo XXXIV

The medieval history of the manuscript is not known. At an unknown date in the 17th century it was included in the library of Gottorp Castle in Schleswig, possibly as part of the manuscripts acquired through Fridericus Lindenbrogius, who may have added the notes mentioned above. - The manuscripts of Gottorp Castle were transferred to Copenhagen in 1735

The digital facsimile offers extra large variant images of ff. 1r-7v & 55v
