Loan from other libraries

If possible at all, the Royal Danish Library's Document Delivery Section will borrow books, copies and other materials not held or not available in our own collections.

We request from libraries and information providers globally and this service is free charge for students, staff and faculty of the Copenhagen University.

For other private users the service is free of charge if we can obtain the material from libraries in Scandinavia. Please check pricing details. We are member of SHARES.

  • We recommend that you search and place your request in the bibliotek.dk system which will guarantee you the fastest service. If an item is unavailable from our collections we will check if available from another library. You may also use our request form found on bottom of this page.

  • Expect delivery within four to six days if your request is for material that is obtainable within Scandinavia or can be delivered to us electronically. It may take longer though if all copies are out on loan or if we need to request from an overseas library. Please make sure to indicate a need by date when you place your request.

  • The lending period for an interlibrary loan item is as follows from the date we receive the item:

    • Items from libraries in Denmark: 60 days
    • Items from abroad: 30 days
    • Individuel loan period decided by the lending library

  • The lending library sets the conditions for use. This applies if, for instance, a book is for loan, or if it is for use in Reading Room West (The Research Reading Room) only.
Wherever possible, we strive to borrow copies for loan, but this is not always possible. Please state it in the note field of the order form if you DO NOT want to use it in the reading room.

By using the Books to your Doorstep service (only in Danish) you may request books from other libraries and have them sent to your home address.
