Tasks and new acquisitions

The Manuscript Department ensures comprehensive approach to aacquire papers of great, national figures as well as those of less well known individuals, insofar as they leave behind diaries, letters or other papers of historical value. Rich and varied historical documents and documents of literary and cultural history are placed at the service of contemporary society and posterity for purposes of documentation and research. Moreover, the Department provides conservation, photography and copying of manuscripts and other records.

Private donations make up a substantial part of new acquisitions. Nevertheless, continual efforts by the Department are required to obtain new documents and collections, including documents which are on sale on auctions and in antiquarian booksellers in Denmark and abroad.
