Experience an unusual and exciting encounter between Melchior Lorck's drawings and woodcuts from Istanbul in the 1500's and Finn Larsen's sober and surprising photographs from Turkey today in the upcoming exhibition.
In this encounter between the two artists the one era illuminates the other - as an expression of both rupture and continuity. At the same time the interplay and contrasts between the works open a visual dialogue on representation, alienation and impressions.
The Image of Turkey? opens on the occasion of the publication of art historian Erik Fischer's book on Melchior Lorck. The exhibition is part of a larger celebration of the artist in which the State Museum of Art also has an exhibition.
The exhibition "The Image of Turkey" is open from February 15 - April 19, 2008.
