The Diamond Ensemble winds have a number of great quintets on their list of works that they love to play. And then there are the works for eight and nine winds that they would very much like to present to the ensemble audience in the Queen’s Hall. Naturally, this requires some wind reinforcements.
For this February concert the ensemble has invited some of their good friends, making them able to play two very popular works written for a larger wind complement than they can usually muster: Gounod’s Petite symphonie and Hummel’s Partita in E flat major.
The concert begins with music from the large Royal Library collection of Danish music – composed by Gustav Helsted (1857-1924). The work, Decet in D major, is written for the exact musical complement of the Diamond Ensemble: flute, oboe, bassoon, horn, two violins, viola, cello, and double-bass.
Programme:
Gustav Helsted: Decet, D major (1891)
Charles Gounod: Petite symphonie, for nine wind instrument (1885)
Johann N. Hummel: Partita, E-flat Major, for eight wind instrument
Sponsors: Siemens, Beckett-Fund, Oticon Fund.
