Trio con Brio I

Last update: 12-15-2011 02:01 PM Tuesday 9 February 2010 at 17:00 Queen's Hall

The Trio con Brio will play six of Beethoven’s piano trios spread out over three five o’clock concerts in The Black Diamond. Find your favourite trio or even better: Listen to all six of them!

Con brio means lively, with energy, and without a doubt the trio meets these criteria. The trio was established in 1999 and consists of three of Danish music's most important profiles: The pianist Jens Elvekjær,  a  soloist very much in demand,  the violinist Soo-Jin Hong, DR SymfoniOrkestrets 1st violinist and Soo-Kyung Hong, solo cellist in Det Kgl. Kapel.

In Denmark, the trio is one of the most commended, and their superior quality of music has earned them several prestigious prizes. One such is the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, which Trio con Brio won in the US in 2005. This prize is only awarded every other year and solely to a piano trio of world class. Included in the award was a 20-concert tour of the US plus a new CD recording. All this has given the trio a valuable network in the US, and one of their concerts took place in New York's famous Carnegie Hall.

Beethoven is the core repertoire of the trio. When the ensemble performed all of his piano trios at a concert in Tivolis Koncertsal, the newspaper Berlingske Tidende proclaimed: "Olympic championship!"

3 musicians + 3 concerts = 6 Beethoven trios.
The programme for this afternoon is:
Beethoven: Piano trio opus 1 no. 1
Beethoven: Piano trio opus 70 no. 1
