About International Authors’ Stage in the Diamond
Last update: 04-22-2010 03:57 PMIn the Black Diamond, the scene is set for good in-depth literary talks. Talks that start from the international authors’ current works, but also talks that establish a link to other artistic genres and to the world outside Denmark.
We see the International Authors’ stage as a positive contribution to Danish cultural life. Danes read a lot, but very little translated literature. The media are increasingly neglecting foreign writers, and during the extensive work with the “Culture Canon”, only Danish writers were taken into consideration. Globalization has inspired neither media nor cultural institutions in Denmark to focus on international literature.
With the authors’ stage, we wish to create a breath of international atmosphere into the country and to involve the Danes in those debates that are going on outside of Denmark. For each event, we have invited a Danish author to talk and debate with our foreign guest - a literary meeting between Danish authors and colleagues from abroad.
We believe that literature is one of the best ways to gain insight into how people from different cultures live together. Therefore, we will continually ensure that the translated literature, the conditions of which can be difficult in this country, is presented in an exclusive scene in Copenhagen.
The Royal Library is a house of great thoughts, thus being the right place for an initiative of this dimension. The building’s exclusive interior encourages and facilitates a high intellectual level of ambition. The architecture by itself challenges and invites our guests to think. The Black Diamond is high-ceilinged both in the spiritual and the physical sense!
The International Authors’ stage in The Black Diamond was inspired by Kulturhuset Stockholm’s International Authors’ stage led by Ingmar Fast.
