Johann Adolph Scheibe

III sonate per il cembalo obligato e flauto traverso o violino concertato

SchW A4:Coll.002

Composition: Sønderborg, 1757.

Based on the plate number, the present collection of three sonatas for harpsichord and flute or violin may be dated to around 1758–59. The printed edition does not seem to have survived; however, a transcript of the edition with a complete title page even including plate number is shelved in The Royal Library. It was probably produced using the printed edition as master copy. At the time of publication, Scheibe was living in Sønderborg and Johann Ulrich Haffner, the music publisher in Nuremberg, showed great interest in the composer’s works as is evident from a letter which Scheibe wrote to his acquaintance, Georg Philipp Telemann, in August 1757. Thus two of Scheibe’s harpsichord solo sonatas (SchW A4:006, A4:007) were issued in 1757 and 1759.
