In a letter of August 1914, the poet Anders W. Holm asked Nielsen to compose a melody to one of Holm's poems. Nielsen had concerns about fitting a melody to the different rhythmic structure of the poem's first two lines. The correspondence also reveals that they had difficulties reaching an agreement on the publication of the music.
