Carl Nielsen Edition (Editorial Texts)

Arrangement not by Nielsen:

Composition: July 1921.

Thorvald Aagaard had composed a melody to the poem but was apparently not satisfied with it. In a letter of July 1921 to Aagaard, Nielsen announced that he also wanted to take up the challenge of writing a new melody. Nielsen sent the melody to Aagaard a week later.
