Carl Nielsen Edition (Editorial Texts)

Composition: Between 1918 and 1921.

In May 1918, the poet Jeppe Aakjær requested Nielsen to compose a melody to his new text. When the composer took up the task is not known. The plans regarding its publication in 1919 seem to have failed, and it was first printed in 1921.
